ICC publish “Implementing the URDTT”

25/03/2022 Following the successful implementation of the Uniform Rules for Digital Trade Transactions (URDTT) on 1 October 2021, the ICC has today released an accompanying publication to help users understand more fully the rules and provide some guidance on implementing the URDTT for existing or new products.

Gary Collyer was one of the four contributors to the publication.

Could you please advise for the case where a charter party bill of lading is to be signed by the charterer (indicating its capacity as charterer and their name) for and on behalf of the named Master? I have read your case posted as below and it is NO for the case of for and on behalf of the Owner but not the Master. ASKED Can a charter party bill of lading be signed by the charterer (indicating its capacity as charterer and name) on behalf of the owner? ANSWERED By definition, a charterer is the person or entity that charters a vessel from the owner (or the owner's agent). There would not normally be a relationship between the two, as would exist between the owner and its agent. Article 22 does not provide for signing in the manner described.
